US cable network and independent TV Production Company announce co production deal
(4th December 2012 – London) Leading independent TV Production Company Zig Zag Productions and Viacom-owned Logo today announce a new co production – ‘Otherkin’.
‘Otherkin’ is a 60-minute observational documentary that reveals a community who see themselves as partially or entirely non-human and who have a spiritual or psychological identification with animals.
This secretive community is rarely seen in the media due to their worry of ridicule. The film follows a teenager from Brunswick, Georgia who believes he is a wolf and is obsessed with confirming this by changing his name legally to his wolf name, Shiro. The film also introduces the viewer to a commune of otherkin in upstate New York who include a human ‘raccoon’ and ‘leopard’ in a inter species polyamorous relationship and ‘wolf’ couple in West Sussex, England attempting to discover the basis for their identification with animals
The show delves into the psychological background to the otherkin phenomenon and explores how individuals become otherkin and the pressures they face in living as an animal in a human orientated 21st century.
The show will form part of Logo’s challenging ‘What?!’ strand that explores unusual worlds, people and experiences outside the mainstream.
Zig Zag Productions’ Vice President of Commercial and Current Production Leila Monks brokered the ‘Otherkin’ deal with Logo’s Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Business and Legal Affairs, Richard Parent. Logo will have the rights to broadcast the film in the United States. Zig Zag Productions is also in advanced stages of negotiation with broadcasters in the UK, Benelux, Scandinavia, CEEMA and South America.
Executive producers for Zig Zag Productions are Leila Monks and Clare Hollywood, Head of Entertainment, Factual and Features.
“‘Otherkin’ is a documentary that features some really fascinating characters that took us months of careful research and dialogue to gain access to. We are delighted to be working together with Logo to tell their compelling stories.” said Zig Zag’s Leila Monks.
“‘Otherkin’ will shed light on a unique lifestyle that not many people are aware of or have even seen,” said Brent Zacky, Senior Vice President of Programming, Logo. “Logo viewers are fascinated with programming that explores extremes in our society.”
The programme is scheduled for broadcast on Logo in the United States in early 2013.
