DIY Surgery

The documentary will explore the reality of self-surgery and the cutting edge of human bravery and survival – those who have to operate unexpectedly on themselves or others in extreme situations… Stories of human initiative, pain and endurance tested to the limit will be illustrated with intimate interviews from witnesses, survivors and medical experts alike.

The addition of archive film and re – construction will complete the picture. From the origins of wartime field surgery to the survival of modern day adventurers, the complexities of overcoming pain and the human instinct for survival will be explored from both a physiological and psychological aspect.
