Zig Zag Productions is aiming to secure a US commission for its couples-in-crisis format after striking a deal with local producer The Gurin Company.
“The Gurin Company, which produces series including The Singing Bee (pictured) for NBC and The CW’s Oh, Sit!, is to pitch Love Will Tear Us Apart to US broadcasters.
The format takes 10 couples, nominated by their friends and families, who are suffering from a range of personal problems and puts them through a relationship stress-test hosted on a romantic retreat.
The Gurin Company has previously exported a number of UK and international formats to the US including The Weakest Link for NBC and Test The Nation for Fox.
‘With our combined track record of game shows and relationship formats, The Gurin Company were an obvious partner for us to collaborate with,’ said Zig Zag chief executive Danny Fenton.
‘Danny and I have known each other a long time and have admired each other’s work across the Atlantic,’ added Gurin founder Phil Gurin. ‘We decided it would be fun and hopefully lucrative to collaborate, and we’re excited about this first venture. The relationship space is an important place to play, and we’ve think we have created another global brand here with Love Will Tear Us Apart.’”
