Independent production company announces UK deals with Sparks Network partners
and wins Sparks Best Format Award

(15th July 2013 – London) Zig Zag Productions today announces the signing of UK option deals for three new TV show formats through the Sparks Network, the global independent producers’ format alliance.

The independent production company has signed an option deal with Jack Black’s Electric Dynamite production company and Japan’s T Group’s to remake the hit game show ‘Hide and Seek’ for the UK. The show’s format is simple – play the ultimate game of ‘hide and seek’ and win big money. A family group of contestants, helped by a team of camouflage experts, special effects make up artists, set designers and concealment experts who design false walls, camouflage costumes and booby traps, hide in their own home from a celebrity ‘seeker’. If the celebrity fails to find them within the time limit, the family wins a cash prize. ‘Hide and Seek’ has enjoyed significant success in Japan, becoming one of TV Tokyo’s most popular shows.

Zig Zag has also secured the UK rights to remake ‘Jockey Stars’ for the UK from Galway’s Abu Media. The show, first broadcast as a 6 x 45 min reality series on Irish free to air channel TG4 earlier this year, follows a number of hopefuls through three months of gruelling training culminating in a horserace to find the next champion jockey. ‘Jockey Stars’ won ‘Best Reality Series’ at this year’s Irish Film and Television Awards. Abu Media is currently working on a second series for TG4.

The third UK option deal for Zig Zag is with Montreal’s Trio Orange production company for ‘Wanted’, a dating show format in which contestants find their soul mate through an Internet and social media manhunt. With the help of specialist psychological profilers ‘Wanted’ contestants create a composite physical and moral profile, encapsulating the perfect characteristics of their dream partner. The light-hearted manhunt culminates with five possible candidates competing through a series of challenges whilst our contestant builds up a detailed picture of them – who is most suited to be his dream partner?

In another development within the Sparks Network, Zig Zag was the winner of a recent Sparks Format Award, designed to recognize creative format development within the global production alliance. The competition was open to all Sparks Network global partners and saw the participants submitting a non-commissioned format on paper to the judges. Zig Zag won for 3000 Euros to produce a mood tape/ pilot for its format ‘Memory Box’, a groundbreaking biography show that sees celebrities relive their deeply personal history – and for the first time, visiting their future through innovative projection mapping and hologram technology.

“These are three very different but equally compelling formats that we think have huge potential” said Danny Fenton, CEO of Zig Zag Productions. “We’re very excited to be bringing them to UK broadcast partners”.

“Zig Zag’s innovative view and ability to see outside of the box is makes them such a great partner to work with. They are very worthy winners of the Sparks Formats Awards. I can’t wait to see the shows on air the UK” said Nicola Soderlund, Managing Director at Sparks Network.
